league of nations Extend Mandate of Peace Force in Congo

league of nations Security Council on Monday (22/12) with the mandate unanimously to update the UN troops guard the peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo for one year. The Council also menugasi troops to give priority to the protection of civilians.

Resolution 1856 extended the mandate of the mission known as MONUC, which expire at the end of this month, to 31 December 2009, and up to date confirm the sustainability of 19,815 military personnel, 760 military observers, 391 police personnel, 1,050 personnel and a number of units Police formed.

Resolution is set MONUC, "To give high priority to the handling of the crisis in the Kivus (the region east DR Congo), especially the protection of civilians, and to concentrate in a progressive actions in the coming year in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo."

Washington has also said that UN troops are now free to act against armed rebel groups that threaten humanity civilians and UN personnel.
