World also concerned on Mindanao

ACHIEVING peace in Mindanao is a concern not only for the Filipinos, but for the international community as well, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo said.

He disclosed that the Mindanao situation has been a fixture in conversations during sidelines of international meetings, saying that other countries leaders would want to be updated on how the Philippines is doing in the peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Romulo said world leaders and diplomats have asked him about the peace pact while he was in China for the Asia-Europe meeting in Beijing, as well as during the United Nations General Assembly in New York and the recent Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“Everywhere I go, they are asking about it,” Romulo told reporters in a press conference held at the Harborview restaurant on Tuesday.

“They are interested about it because we all know that peace is crucial not only for the development and progress of Mindanao but also of the whole country.”
