U.S. Send 21,000 Tons of Food Aid to North Korea

United States plans to send 21,000 tons of food aid to North Korea in the near future, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the U.S. in Washington, Tuesday (23/12).

Delivery of food continues, although negotiations to dismantle North Korea's nuclear program have impasse.

"Our humanitarian program will continue," said Spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the U.S., Sean McCormack. "We will try to implement this task."

McCormack said, the fact search mission recently returned from the region. All said that the U.S. is committed to send 500,000 tons of food. So far, about 143,000 tons have been sent to the peninsula state.

Food is distributed through the World Food Program (WFP) in addition to several U.S. non-government organizations.

One of the problems that need to be solved is to get people who speak Korean, which can work with WFP, for the implementation of the distribution, said McCormack.

"We want to ensure, as the government, that the dollar-dollar tax results for the United States provided humanitarian assistance, and this means that the people in place that require food aid will get it," he said.

In early December, the U.S. reduce shipping crude to North Korea because Pyongyang refused sign the legalization process related to the removal their nuclear weapons program.

In 2007, North Korea promised to submit nuklirnya weapons program, to be exchanged with the economic and energy aid from the U.S., China, Japan, Russia, and South Korea, and to improve relations with Washington diplomatiknya.

However, Pyongyang refused to allow the nuclear inspector to take samples of soil and waste in their nuclear installations Clip Available, a process that can determine how much Plutonium for nuclear weapons have been manufactured in the country.
