Russia provided Iran Air Defense System

The Government of Iran, Sunday (21/12), confirming Russia will procure new air defense system to the Islamic countries.

As reported the news department official, Deputy Head of Iran's Security Commission, Ismael Kowsari said that after several months negotiations, Iran reached an agreement with Russia for the delivery of air defense systems worth 300 million dollars. The system is known as SAZO.

Ismael Kowsari said the system will strengthen Iran's ability to maintain air areas of the country.

Russia not only has military cooperation with Iran but also for nuclear cooperation. Center nuclear power cooperation with Russia on the island of Bushehr, southern Iran will operate year 2009.

Although Iran asserts projects nuklirnya only for peaceful purpose, the U.S. and Israel fear Iran will create a secret nuclear weapons program. Emergency U.S. and Israel increased since Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threaten to destroy the Jewish state from the Middle East.
